Reinforced frames

Once I started cutting the frames and found them to bend under the strain of the hull, I decided to have my frames with at least 12mm [1/2"] thickness (in some places with 24mm [1"] and/or fiber glass reinforcement).
Yes, this is overkill. But now they are very sturdy and I feel confident with the construction.

Prep of side panel stringers // Transom's in

I had to scarf join the wood strips I use for the side panel stringers (as I also did with the bottom stringers) to have the full length from bow to transom.
To get the scarf right, I used a self constructed jig.

Aligned and bolted to the floor to let the epoxy cure properly.

Transom's glued in with epoxy ...

... and reinforced with tape.

Winter is over ...

Winter is officially over since the beginning of April. Now that we enter Mai, I think it is time to update the blog.

1) Winter was hard, lots of snow (sometimes at least :-) ) and I lost my shipyard tent because of too much snow in one night :-(. The sight of the caved in tent was too hard to look upon, so I didn't take pictures.
This was taken after we cleaned up the mess and before we put up the new one.

2) I remembered my CAD past and designed the cradle components (cutting table under the plans look familiar? I got the idea on i550.org)

3) this is the "base frame" for the cradle ...

4) ... and here is the finished product:

Now the fun can start ... :-)

Last post before winter? We will see ...

Ok, so fall was not what it was supposed to be :-(

I will just post what is left over on my camera and tell you that the project is (more or less) on hold during the winter months.
